The base function of the digestive system

Eating all the right is only one part of the nutrition process. You have to digest it, transport it to the right place and eliminate the unabsorbed nutrients. There are many condition that can affect this process which could lead to digestive disorder.

Even if 2 people eat the same meal, they will not necessarily get the same nutritional valve... it will depend in part on their digestive system.

The basic function of the digestive system is the breakdown and assimilation of foods, primarily carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

It break down protein into amino acids, carbohydrates into sugar and starches, and fat into fatty acids

In a normal digestive/intestinal tract
  • Foods goes into the mouth, where it is supposed to be chewed, and mixed with saliva, this is where digestion begins.

  • Then, it goes down the esophagus and into the stomach

  • Then, it goes into the small intestine which is approximately 22 feet long and 1" to 1.5" in diameter.

  • The food not utilized goes into the colon which is the large intestinal system.
Stomach: Stores and mixes food with hydrochloric acid and enzymes to break down food into a usable form.

Small Intestine: Nutrients from food are absorbed into the blood stream from the small intestine, and distributed to all body tissues.

Liver: Collects and stores nutrients from the small intestine and converts them to energy for nourishment of the body. Filter the blood, neutralizing toxins.

Gallbladder: Stores and regulates the release of concentrated bile as needed for the breakdown of fat.

Pancreas: Secretes pancreatic juice that aids in the digestive process; also an endocrine gland that regulates blood sugar.

Symptoms associated with poor digestion
  • Gassy

  • Bloated Stomach

  • Indigestion

  • Heartburn

  • Even stomach ulcers, and many more

Where to start for improvement of poor digestion

If you're experiencing any of the above symptoms, a great place to start for improvement of poor digestion is to start building the digestive system. A great place to start is by taking digestive enzymes.

Enzymes secreted from the various organs of the system act as catalysts in breaking down food into compounds the body can use. In addition, hydrochloric acid (HCI) is needed in order to break down food.

However, the body's ability to produce HCI decreases by the age of 30 and continues to decrease with age.

In order for food to be properly digested and assimilated into fuel for the body, there needs to be a proper balance of microorganisms, digestive juices and enzymes in the digestive tract.

To help eliminate digestive disorder the digestive tissues must maintain the ability to function properly. They are able to do this when you obtain sufficient amount of the antioxidant vitamins and other substances, such as carotenoids (found in fruits, vegetables, grains and cereals).

Cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage and broccoli, provide substances that are especially important for these tissues.

Also , it is important for these tissues to get adequate fibre and to avoid excessive dietary fat. Fibre helps maintain good tone in these tissues, which is essential for proper digestion.

Next is to start on a detoxification program: This process needs to be done gently and gradually. You need to train your digestive-intestinal system to go on its own 2-3 times per day.

First and foremost, one of the most important factors for proper elimination/detox is the consumption of good quality water.

Along with water, chlorophyll is a another important factor for proper elimination/detox, it will help you with some gentle cleansing daily.

Next you need to go on a general cleanse like the Bod-E-Klenz or Tiao He Pak.
